He studied at the Academic art Lyceum named after Johanson ( Secondary school of fine arts) in Saint Petersburg (1971 -1976).
In 1982 he graduated from Saint Petersburg Academy of arts named after I.E. Repin, specialty graphic artist.
Since 1984 – participant of exhibitions of different levels: all union, republican, regional and foreign.
Since 1991 – member of Union of artists of Russia.
Alexander Pechatnov – multifaceted artist working in many media and genres – this easel painting, which includes multi-figure compositions – paintings-reflections, decorative still lifes, sublimely sensual portraits-mood, and was also engaged in monumental painting, dabbled in experimental techniques.
A special place in the artist took a watercolor painting, lyrical landscapes of nature in central, images of Russian province, the charm of its small towns, has preserved the national character and does not stop to surprise the bright colors of their churches and warmth plain old streets, loved and favorite author.
Works of artist are in the Ryazan state regional art Museum named after Pozhalostin, the state Museum-reserve of S. A. Yesenin, as well as in private collections in Russia, France, Spain, Germany, USA.
